Education.Hasty Pudding Theatricals is America's oldest drama group, based out of Harvard University in Boston. Every year, the group honors a male and female performer for their significant contributions to the world of entertainment. This year's winners are Jay Leno and Julianne Moore.
Leno, obviously, is best-known as the somewhat controversial host of The Tonight Show. He is a consistent ratings winner and is generally well-liked among the American viewing audience. Jay's humor is pretty safe and lacks some of the edge that is found with Letterman, Conan and others. But he gets the ratings and has managed to maintain the success of his predecessor, the legendary Johnny Carson.
Julianne Moore is somewhat of a surprise choice, but she has been on a nice run recently. She is one of the stars of the Oscar-nominated The Kids are Alright and she also had a successful story arc on NBC's 30 Rock earlier in the year.
The Hasty Pudding Award is given in the form of a pudding pot to the award's recipients. And despite the silly name, the Hasty Pudding Award is actually respected in the industry. Upon hearing the name, it's easy to think "Razzies" and perhaps a group that is making fun of particular artists. The award is presented in a roast setting, ensuring that there will be plenty of humor surrounding the ceremony.
