With an exceptionally low rate of acceptance, getting into Harvard is a difficult process for those who have poor academic records, to be ruthlessly frank. But this doesn't mean that candidates with average score can't apply. Harvard looks into many other factors before screening candidates for final admission. It is best to apply if you're confident of excelling in numerous areas. Since there are many departments in Harvard, we'll restrict our question, 'how to get into Harvard' by focusing on law, business and medical schools of Harvard.Get into Harvard Law School: TipsHarvard law school, located in Massachusetts, is ranked at the 3rd position amongst best law schools in America. It demonstrates its exceptional educational quality in law field. Nearly 6000 to 7000 applicants are received every year in Harvard law school and nearly 800 are selected from that (Nearly 11% acceptance rate). Harvard has not fixed any minimum GPA for admission. This is because all applicants have studied in different colleges and so there is no surety that what is a good GPA for every college and how it determines academic prowess of the candidate. Nevertheless, a GPA of 3 and above is commonly accepted. So aim to score as high as you can in your undergraduate program. If you do that, you'll increase your probability of selection. Next thing considered by Harvard law school is your Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) score. LSAT is not a test meant to analyze information of candidate on legal matters. It is rather aimed to test candidates logical reasoning, critical thinking and analytical abilities. Harvard law school wants to see the potential in candidates to analyze information critically as that is the foundation stone for success in law.

Education.Hasty Pudding Theatricals is America's oldest drama group, based out of Harvard University in Boston. Every year, the group honors a male and female performer for their significant contributions to the world of entertainment. This year's winners are Jay Leno and Julianne Moore.
Leno, obviously, is best-known as the somewhat controversial host of The Tonight Show. He is a consistent ratings winner and is generally well-liked among the American viewing audience. Jay's humor is pretty safe and lacks some of the edge that is found with Letterman, Conan and others. But he gets the ratings and has managed to maintain the success of his predecessor, the legendary Johnny Carson.
Julianne Moore is somewhat of a surprise choice, but she has been on a nice run recently. She is one of the stars of the Oscar-nominated The Kids are Alright and she also had a successful story arc on NBC's 30 Rock earlier in the year.
The Hasty Pudding Award is given in the form of a pudding pot to the award's recipients. And despite the silly name, the Hasty Pudding Award is actually respected in the industry. Upon hearing the name, it's easy to think "Razzies" and perhaps a group that is making fun of particular artists. The award is presented in a roast setting, ensuring that there will be plenty of humor surrounding the ceremony.

But through the centuries the curriculum has broadened extensively and the required courses for students have become focused on traditional academic subjects. But for the last few decades there have been increasingly heated discussions about what courses should be required. The former President of Harvard, Lawrence Summers, made reform a priority in 2001, but the issue became bogged down after several committees held conflicting opinions and initial recommendations for reform were criticized as weak. Summers resigned earlier this year, forced out by faculty anger at his handling of a variety of issues, including the curriculum review. The current core curriculum has been under fire for not focusing on real-world issues that students will likely have to confront once they graduate. So now a faculty committee is recommending that all undergraduate students be required to study religion.
"As academics in a university we don’t have to confront religion if we’re not religious," said Alison Simmons, a philosophy professor who co-chaired the committee," but in the world, they will have to." Harvard’s core curriculum has traditionally avoided the "Great Books" approach to higher education, instead focusing on "approaches to knowledge" rather than the standard bodies of knowledge other universities adhere to. However, the report points out that more than half of Harvard students plan to attend business, law, or medical school. Therefore, the new recommendations are designed to complement the liberal arts education of those students.
If the committee’s recommendations are adopted, Harvard would become the only school among Ivy League institutions that will require students to take courses in both religion and U.S. History. Columbia University has a significant core curriculum that includes required courses on religion, and Dartmouth currently requires a course in the analysis of religion.

Changing Teaching Practices in Mainstream.According to the American Cancer Society, more than 170,000 Americans will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year, and 60% of those diagnosed will die within a year. For 75% of those diagnosed, the disease will prove fatal within the first two years after they are diagnosed. Lung cancer is the deadliest of all cancers, and more than 160,000 people die from the disease each year. The National Cancer Institute says that symptoms of lung cancer can include a cough that doesn’t go away or worsens over time, coughing up blood, chest pain, hoarseness or wheezing, and shortness of breath. Although lung cancer can be caused or exacerbated by exposure to secondhand smoke, radon, asbestos, or certain air pollutants, the most common cause of lung cancer by far is smoking. At the April 18 annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research in Anaheim, California, researchers from Harvard University presented findings that people who had surgery for early-stage lung cancer fared better afterward if they had their surgery during a sunnier time of the year. Results were also better than average for patients who had a high intake of vitamin D before surgery. In fact, those who underwent surgery in very sunny months and also had a high intake of Vitamin D were more than twice as likely to pass the five-year post-op survival mark than those patients who had their surgery during the winter and had a low vitamin D intake

Harvard’s 10% Financial Aid

American Educational Research Journal on Academia.edu. The American Educational Research Journal (AERJ, quarterly; approximately 960 pp.The American Educational Research Journal has as its purpose to carry original empirical and theoretical studies and analyses in education.AERJ stands for American Educational Research Journal. On December 10th, 2007, Harvard President Drew Faust and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Michael D. Smith, announced their new, innovating financial aid program in an attempt to make Harvard more affordable for families of all incomes, but particularly for families of middle and upper middle incomes. Major improvements were made in awarding grants, eliminating student loans and removing home equity values from the financial aid calculations, as well as eliminating the contribution made by families with incomes less than $60,000: "Families with incomes above $120,000 and below $180,000 and with assets typical for these income levels," Harvard announced, "will be asked to pay 10 percent of their incomes. For those with incomes below $120,000, the family contribution percentage will decline steadily from 10 percent, reacing zero for those with incomes at $60,000 and below.""We want all students who might dream of a Harvard education to know that it is a realistic and affordable option," said President Faust. "Education is fundamental to the future of individuals and the nation, and we are determined to do our part to restore its place as an engine of opportunity, rather than a source of financial stress. With no loans, no consideration of home equity, and a dramatic increase in grant aid, we are not tinkering at the margins, we are rebuilding the engine…This is a huge investment for Harvard, but there is no more important commitment we could make. Excellence and opportunity must go hand in hand," he said.NOT SO FAST WITH YOUR APPLAUSE. Before you begin offering words of praise for Harvard’s proclaimed financial aid initiative, consider whether or not, as we’ve seen so many times before, all of those carefully chosen words are as empty as the pot at the end of a rainbow that nobody ever finds. Could it be that the Ivy League giant has already balked on their promise and that some of their groundbreaking financial assistance is nothing more than a lot of hype?
